What I Wish I Knew Before Taking a Roadtrip in my Tesla
I love my Tesla for everyday life! And it drives so smooth on the highway. But for a roadtrip with kids, here’s what I wish I knew…

- You don’t need to charge to 100%- charging slows dramatically after 80% and you will be there forever!
- Hills, cold weather and fast driving drain the battery quickly
- Charging stops take much longer than gas- plan food and bathroom breaks when you stop to charge, especially with kids
- Multiple charging stops (2-3+) can make the trip feel so much longer than usual
- Use Tesla navigation- it auto-plans charging stops and adjusts your routes in real time
- Always check charger availability before stops and plan extra time in case chargers are full or down
- Try to plan charges before nighttime- stations are not always well lit and can be off the main roads. Be sure to stay alert at stops always
- You can save money driving electric but not as much as you would think
- Stop at Tesla chargers so you don’t have to worry about using an adapter
Have you taken an electric car on a roadtrip before? Would you do it again?
